India’s New AI Framework Likely to Feature Technical Secretariat

India’s forthcoming AI governance framework is expected to establish a technical secretariat within the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) rather than a full-fledged AI regulator. This body will set up guidelines for data provenance, environmental metrics, safety & security, coordinate across ministries, and host an AI-incident database. It won’t have regulatory enforcement powers.
