A Columbia Law School study revealed that shopping chatbots used by Amazon and Walmart—such as Alexa for Shopping and Sparky—can detect contradictory "Made in USA" claims on listings. Despite AI tools catching foreign shipping details or imported components paired with domestic badges, the platforms fail to flag or warn consumers about these fake claims, citing business and strategic reasons for withholding the alerts.
