Deleted But Not Safe? What U.S. Border Agents Can Search on Your Phone

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can inspect travelers' phones at airports using basic or forensic "advanced" searches. While CBP policies explicitly forbid accessing remote cloud data, they don't clarify whether forensic tools can recover deleted messages. However, immigration lawyers warn that officers have used recovered deleted texts during border entry decisions.
