Canada has introduced the "Safe Social Media Act," proposing a sweeping ban on social media accounts for children under 16 and new regulations for AI chatbots. Seeking to combat online exploitation and youth mental health crises, the bill forces tech platforms to be "safe by design." Non-compliant tech giants face heavy fines of up to 3% of global revenue. Enforced by a new Digital Safety Commission, the rules could take up to 18 months to implement.
