ByteDance Chip Designers in China Now Report to Singapore Unit

Chip design engineers at ByteDance in Beijing and Shanghai were surprised to discover they've been reassigned to report to a Singapore-based unit via internal messaging channels. This reorganization appears aimed at easing increasing U.S.–China trade restrictions on advanced semiconductors. Despite ramping up chip design capabilities since 2022, ByteDance still lags behind peers like Alibaba and Baidu.
