Draft IT Rules Mandate AI Content Labeling to Fight Deepfakes

To combat the growing menace of deepfakes and misinformation, India has proposed draft amendments to IT Rules mandating clear labeling of all AI-generated content on social media. Platforms must obtain user declarations and embed visible or audible markers—covering at least 10% of the content area—on synthetic media. Non-compliant platforms risk losing legal "safe harbor" protection. The move aims to boost transparency and user awareness online.
