Nepal Lifts Social Media Ban After Protests, TikTok & Discord Usage Soars

After youth-led protests in Nepal following a ban on social media, the government lifted restrictions on platforms like TikTok, Discord, and Bitchat. The announcement was made on September 8, citing respect for freedom of expression. During the ban, some apps remained accessible, but usage surged once full services were restored. At least 51 people, including an Indian national, died during the unrest sparked by both corruption grievances.
