OpenAI Completes For-Profit Restructure, Secures Microsoft Deal
OpenAI finalized its corporate recapitalization, converting its for-profit entity into a public benefit corporation under its nonprofit foundation's control. The move, which unlocks massive funding, includes a restructured partnership giving Microsoft a roughly 27% stake (valued at $135 billion) and extended exclusive IP rights through 2032. The nonprofit will use its $130 billion equity for philanthropy.
