Pilot Union Urges FAA to Reject Rainmaker’s Drone Cloud-Seeding Plan Over Safety Risks

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) is calling on the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to deny Rainmaker Technology’s petition to use small drones for cloud-seeding, arguing it presents “extreme safety risk.” Rainmaker seeks an exemption to carry flares on its Elijah quadcopter at up to 15,000 feet—into controlled airspace. Concerns cited include lack of clarity over operational altitudes, risk from debris and fire.
