Power Move: GM May Skip Affordable LFP Tech for Next-Gen Batteries

General Motors is reconsidering its plans to build affordable EVs using lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, a chemistry heavily favored by competitors like Tesla and Ford to slash costs.Instead, GM battery chief Kurt Kelty revealed the automaker is pivoting toward proprietary lithium-manganese-rich (LMR) cells. GM believes LMR will serve as its high-volume "workhorse," matching LFP’s low production costs while delivering vastly superior energy density and driving range.
