Newly unsealed filings in The New York Times’ copyright lawsuit reveal Microsoft executives privately described AI scraping as theft and warned that generative AI could threaten publishers and their workers. The documents allege OpenAI and Microsoft scraped large volumes of copyrighted content, including paywalled material, for AI training. Microsoft’s internal data also showed Copilot significantly reduced traffic to The New York Times
