Zach Dell’s startup, Base Power, is using a "Costco-style" membership model to bring home battery systems to every American backyard. Instead of selling systems for upwards of $15,000, Base offers low $695 setup fees and a $19 monthly subscription. Valued at $13 billion after a $1 billion funding round, the company profit-shares by routing stored energy back to the grid during peak demand.
