High-Tech Hoax: X Tells Court Delhi Police Takedown Demand Was Fake

Social media platform X informed the Delhi High Court that legal notices demanding the removal of accounts belonging to Indian digital rights groups—including the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) and SFLC.in—were fraudulent. An internal investigation revealed an impostor impersonated the Delhi police to issue the takedown orders. X had forwarded the notices to users before discovering they were fake, prompting legal challenges.
