By TechShots Studio

NASA engineers successfully executed a clever power-saving reconfiguration—dubbed the "Big Bang" fix—on Voyager 2, extending the nearly 49-year-old spacecraft's interstellar science mission by at least another year. By replacing high-draw heaters and hardware with lower-power alternatives, JPL controllers freed up enough electricity to keep all three remaining science instruments operating as the probe continues exploring deep space.
